Happy Birthday John Lennon!

October 9, 2009

Today, 9th October, would have been John Lennon’s 69th birthday. Whilst many news blogs remember the day he was shot dead in New York on 8th December, 1980, Yoko Ono continues to celebrate his birthday with tribute events and the Imagine Peace project.

Inevitably like all iconic figures and heroes of popular culture, John Lennon has also been remembered in the form of action figures in recent years, most notably in the stunning lifelike sculpt by NECA, available in both 7 inch and luxury 18 inch talking versions. There was also a fun Yellow Submarine set of figures by McFarlane at the end of the 1990s.

Of course, The Beatles were no strangers to the concept of marketing in the form of toys and gimmicks, with everything from Beatles Bobblehead Nodders to Beatle Wigs being sold at the time of their heyday!
