As regular readers of this blog will know, I take a very occasional look at a brand new action figure release if it’s likely to be of interest to vintage collectors…or if I’m so excited about a figure that I can’t wait to spread the word about it! I mean, seriously folks, who could resist mentioning this Superman 12-inch Figure from the 1978 classic superhero film Superman that Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys have just revealed to the world?
With a stunning movie-accurate hand-painted likeness of Christopher Reeve it’s certainly sending some major ripples through the toy blogging universe right now and would seem to be the Superman we’ve all been waiting for! He even comes packaged with a detailed light-up figure stage imitating the Fortress of Solitude.
Hot Toys Limited will also be donating a portion of this collectible figure’s sales to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.
The figure is part of the Movie Masterpiece Series and features work by some of the biggest names in the business. The painting is by the maestro himself, Korean action figure paint artist J C Hong along with the equally brilliant Joseph Tsang, with talented sculptors Arnie Kim and Yulli working on the sculpt. The newly sculpted muscular body will have with over 30 points of articulation with extra muscular upper body, neck and chest as well as three pairs of interchangeable palms.
Early birds within the continental United States and Europe who pre-order the Sideshow Exclusive version of the Supermam 12-Inch Figure now will receive a unique feature available nowhere else – a Kryptonite neck chain.
