As regular readers of this website will know I very occasionally featured brand new action figure releases if they are of particular interest to vintage collectors. With my tickets for the first screening in Rome, Italy of JJ Abrams’ Star Wars reboot The Force Awakens already purchased for tomorrow, I thought I’d join in with the global buzz with a closer look at this astoundingly good 12 inch figure of everybody’s favourite droid C-3PO.
Those masters of the movie-likeness Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles have created another spitting image 12-inch action figure that is sure to become a highly sought after collectors’ piece amongst Batman fans and admirers of Tim Burton’s vision of one of DC Comics’ most enduring superheroes – Jack Nicholson as The Joker from the dazzling 1989 Batman movie!
Released as part of the DeluXe (DX) Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series, this 1:6th scale action figure boasts a highly detailed head sculpt by the amazing Yulli, with paintwork and art direction by the maestro himself J.C. Hong, and with the highly sophisticated Hot Toys exclusive Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS) you had better watch out – Jack really IS watching you!
The TrueType body has over 30 points of articulation, a variety of different hands, and of course, being The Joker, his outfit is reproduced in spectacular gaudy detail. He is also issued with all the weapons and Joker gimmicks – such as his chattering teeth and magic stick – you could wish for.
Well, it looks like Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles have done it again folks…just when you thought their movie likenesses couldn’t get any better, they have upped the ante once more with a brand new and highly collectible Captain America 12-inch action figure specially crafted on the image of Chris Evans as he appears in this summer’s hotly anticipated Marvel Comics blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger movie. I mean, seriously folks, who could resist mentioning this Superman 12-inch Figure from the 1978 classic superhero film Superman that Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys have just revealed to the world?
With a stunning movie-accurate hand-painted likeness of Christopher Reeve it’s certainly sending some major ripples through the toy blogging universe right now and would seem to be the Superman we’ve all been waiting for! He even comes packaged with a detailed light-up figure stage imitating the Fortress of Solitude.
With Benicio del Toro currently starring in The Wolfman movie as the latest in a long line of cinematographic lycanthropes, I thought this would be a an excellent excuse to take a look back at the greatest Wolf Man of them all – Lon Chaney Jr.
I saw this Universal Studios Monsters action figure in the window of a second-hand store recently and could scarcely believe my eyes – although I’d known about this Sideshow Collectibles figure for years, it had sold out very quickly soon after release in 1998 and I thought it unlikely that I would ever happen upon one at a bargain price – certainly not in Rome, Italy! I’m a huge fan of those old Universal Pictures monster movies so this was a must-have!
